These campaign souvenirs represent a very interesting chapter in Illinois and Chicago politics. Roman Pucinski (1919-2002) had been a U.S. Congressman from the northwest side of Chicago since 1958. In 1970, redistricting eliminated his district. So in 1972, he ran as the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator from Illinois. He was soundly defeated by incumbent Charles H. Percy. Pucinski went on to serve as a Chicago city alderman from 1973-1991 for the new 41st Ward, which included much of his old Congressional district.
